A little rain didn’t stop the fun and excitement of the 15th annual Talo’fo’fo’ Banana Festival, which wrapped up on Sunday evening.
The Guam Daily Post stopped by during Day 2 of the festival and met with several festivalgoers. For some, such as Katie Rosenbaum, who attended the festival with her husband, Walker, this was the family’s first Guam festival experience.
“We’re new to the island, so this has really been fun to see the local shops and participate and see a ton of good produce and food to try and shop,” Katie Rosenbaum said.
New to the island, the Banana Festival didn’t disappoint the Rosenbaums.
“For what this is, which is a banana festival, it seems really cool,” Walker Rosenbaum said.
It was also the first time to the Banana Festival for Katrina Smith and her family in the five years they’ve been on the island.
“I’s awesome! It’s awesome to see everybody out here,” Smith said.
The Smith family said they came to the festival to experience the food and entertainment.
The Banana Festival featured various food booths, entertainment, merchandise, games and produce.
For PlantHead Tropicals, a vendor, it was the company’s first pop-up shop.
“We did really good last night, and we are doing good now. It’s only been an hour, and it’s OK,” the PlantHead Tropicals crew said.
PlantHead Tropicals offered a wide assortment of indoor houseplants ranging from $5 and up.
Talo’fo’fo’ Mayor Vicente Taitague told the Post on Saturday that the festival was “so far, so good. Rain or shine, people came out here to enjoy themselves.”
He said the island community was invited to take a drive down south and join in the festivities.
“The weather is good, it’s nice and cool. Up in the north and central, it’s hot,” said Taitague.
For the next festival, Taitague offered some advice: “Come with an empty stomach.”
